ABOUT ME

MEET THE ARTIST

James Ewing

Let me share a little about myself, my journey, and my art. I’ve been active in the art world for over 50 years, and I hope you find my story as fascinating as I do.I was born 73 years ago in Glasgow, Scotland, and now call Arnhem, the Netherlands, my home. Before retiring, I ran two very successful art galleries—one in Glasgow and one in Manchester, England. Over the years, I’ve sold countless paintings, both my own and those of many talented artists.Ultimately, I decided to change course. I sold my galleries, moved to Arnhem, and devoted myself entirely to my passion: painting full-time. Since then, my works have found their way into homes all over the world—from the UK, Ireland, and Europe to Scandinavia, the US, Canada, and even Taiwan.A question I often hear is: “Why don’t you charge more for your paintings?” The answer is simple. Would you want to write a book that no one reads? Compose a song that no one sings? Of course not. I want my art to be loved, exhibited, and have a place in everyday life. That’s why I keep my paintings affordable, so more people can enjoy and experience them.

I hope my paintings touch people on a personal level, take them away, and leave a lasting emotional impression long after they’ve looked away.

For me, painting is more than just applying color to a canvas—it’s about creating an emotional connection. I want my paintings to do more than just beautify a space; they should evoke a feeling, a memory, or even a sense of wonder. My goal is to stir emotions in the viewer.

To achieve this, I focus on atmosphere, light, and movement. With bold, expressive brushstrokes, I bring life and energy to my work, while softer transitions create depth and mood. Color plays a crucial role: deep blues can evoke tranquility, fiery oranges can ignite passion, and muted grays can inspire reflection.

I don’t just paint what I see; I paint what I feel. Each canvas tells a story, and I want the viewer to feel like they’re stepping into that moment and experiencing it for themselves. I hope my paintings touch people on a personal level, transport them, and leave a lasting emotional impression long after they’ve looked away.

what do you get?

When you buy something from an artist, you’re buying more than just an object. You’re buying hundreds of hours of mistakes and experiments. You’re buying years of frustration and moments of pure joy. You’re not just buying one thing; you’re buying a piece of a heart, a piece of a soul… a little piece of someone’s life.
